Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Place and Time.

General

What is Place and Time?

Place and Time is a venue-first dating and social app. Instead of swiping through profiles, you pick a real place — a bar, coffee shop, or park — and see who else wants to go there. When you match, you get an automatic date proposal at that venue. No endless messaging. Real places, real people.

How is Place and Time different from other dating apps?

Traditional dating apps go: see a profile → match → message → plan → maybe meet. Place and Time flips that: pick a venue → see who's interested → match → automatic date proposal → show up. The venue comes first, not the person. This means every match already has a plan.

When does Place and Time launch?

We're launching in Chicago in April 2026. Join the waitlist to be the first to know when the app is available.

Is Place and Time free?

Yes! Place and Time is free to download and use. We'll never charge venues to be listed, either.

What cities are you available in?

We're launching in Chicago first — starting with neighborhoods like Logan Square, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, and areas near major universities. More cities are planned after we nail the Chicago experience.

Singles Dating

How does singles dating work?

Browse real Chicago venues on the app. When you find a spot you like, express interest. You'll see other singles who are also interested in that venue. If you match with someone, Place and Time automatically proposes a date at that venue — day, time, and place. No chat purgatory.

Do I have to message my match before the date?

Nope — that's the whole point. Messaging only opens a few hours before your date for logistics (like "I'm wearing a blue jacket"). We skip the weeks of small talk and get you to the good part: actually meeting.

What if I don't show up?

We have a layered confirmation system. You'll confirm your date at multiple checkpoints. If you don't confirm, the date is cancelled with plenty of notice. Repeated no-shows affect your standing on the app. We take this seriously because someone else's time matters.

Can I choose who I want to date?

Yes. You set your gender and orientation preferences, age range, and other filters. You'll only see and be seen by people who match your preferences at the venues you pick.

Double Dating

What is double dating on Place and Time?

Double dating lets you and a friend create a duo profile together. Your duo matches with another duo, and all four of you go on a double date at a real venue. It's dating with your built-in wingperson.

How do I create a duo?

When you sign up, choose the Double Dating profile type and invite a friend. Your friend downloads the app, joins your duo, and you're ready to match. Your duo even gets an auto-generated nickname.

Does my friend need to download the app too?

Yes — both people in a duo need their own account. This is by design: it means your duo partner has also set their preferences, confirmed their profile, and is genuinely in. No ghost plus-ones.

Is double dating only for college students?

Not at all! Anyone can create a duo. But our campus launch focuses on six Chicago universities (DePaul, Loyola, UChicago, Northwestern, UIC, and Columbia College) because college students love double dates and social plans.

Activity Buddy

What is Activity Buddy?

Activity Buddy helps you find people to do things with — climbing, trivia, running, yoga, whatever your thing is. It's not dating. It's finding someone with the same passion and the same schedule.

Is Activity Buddy a dating feature?

No. Activity Buddy has no gender or orientation filters. You're matched based on your activity interests, preferred venues, and availability. It's about the activity, not attraction.

What kinds of activities are available?

Anything our venue partners offer — rock climbing, trivia nights, group runs, yoga classes, board game nights, cooking classes, and more. The activities are tied to real venues in Chicago.

I just moved to Chicago. Is this for me?

Absolutely. Activity Buddy is perfect for newcomers. Pick the things you love doing, find people who do them too, and meet up at a real place. Instant social circle.

Safety

How does Place and Time keep people safe?

Every date happens at a vetted, public venue — never a private location. Our confirmation system reduces no-shows. Profiles are verified. And if you ever feel uncomfortable, venue staff are always nearby. The venue-first model is inherently safer than meeting a stranger at a random location.

Are the venues vetted?

Yes. Every venue on Place and Time is reviewed by our team. We verify the business, check it's a welcoming environment, and ensure it's a good spot for meeting someone new. Venues can earn "Safe Space" designation for going above and beyond.

Can I report someone?

Yes. The app has built-in reporting for any inappropriate behavior. Reports are reviewed by our team and we take swift action, including permanent bans when warranted.

What about double dating safety?

Double dating has safety built into its DNA — you're never alone on a first date. You always have your friend with you. It's the "bring your bestie" approach to safer dating.
