We flipped dating on its head.
Place and Time starts with where, not who. Because the best love stories don't start with a swipe — they start with a place.
The problem we're solving
Dating apps follow the same broken pattern: see a face, swipe right, match, message, wait, message again, wait more, eventually plan something, hope they show up. By the time you actually meet, you've invested hours of emotional energy into a stranger.
We call it chat purgatory — the limbo between matching and meeting where conversations die, ghosting thrives, and plans never materialize.
70% of dating app matches never lead to a single message. Of those that do, most fizzle before anyone meets in person. The whole system is designed to keep you swiping, not dating.
Traditional dating apps
- See a profile
- Swipe right
- Match
- Message (maybe)
- Plan something (rarely)
- Actually meet (even rarer)
Place and Time
- Pick a real venue
- See who's interested
- Match with a plan
- Show up
Why venue-first changes everything
When the venue comes first, everything else falls into place. You already know where you're going. You already know it's a place you like. Your date is pre-planned — day, time, venue. No "so what are you thinking?" No "where should we go?" No two weeks of logistics over text.
The venue also provides safety. Every date happens at a vetted, public location with staff nearby. No sketchy meetups, no pressure to share your address. Just a good bar, a good coffee shop, or a good park.
And because you chose the venue, you're more likely to actually show up. You wanted to go there anyway.
Meet Luna
Our raccoon guide who's been through it all (especially the pasta part).
Luna is Place and Time's mascot and guide. She's a warm, curious raccoon who loves Italian food, romantic comedies, and helping people find their place.
She'll guide you through the app, celebrate your matches, and remind you that the best love stories start somewhere real.
"Every love story starts with a place... tell me about yours."
Why Chicago first
Chicago is the perfect city for Place and Time. It's a city of neighborhoods, each with its own personality. Logan Square isn't Wicker Park isn't Lincoln Park. The bars are different, the coffee shops are different, the vibe is different.
That matters for us. Place and Time works best when venues have character — when picking "The Burlington" means something different than picking "Big Star." Chicago's neighborhood culture gives every date a built-in story.
We're starting in the neighborhoods we know: Logan Square, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Bucktown, and the areas around DePaul, Loyola, UChicago, Northwestern, UIC, and Columbia College. Real spots. Real people. Real Chicago.
